You can help ensure your successful study abroad experience by planning carefully and learning as much as you can about the country and culture you're about to experience firsthand! The pages of this section are designed to answer many of the questions you may have about such practical concerns as how to get the cheapest airfare, what to pack and how to carry money. If you can't find the information you're looking for here, contact your study abroad advisor for advice at email@example.com or 605-274-5050.
Some suggestions for ways to begin your preparations:
- Buy a good travel guide such as Lonely Planet, Frommers, Fodor's or a Rough Guide. A travel guide will provide you with much good, basic travel information as well as suggestions of places to visit and things to do.
- Purchase a good bi-lingual dictionary if you will be studying in a non-English speaking country. If you don't know the language of the country where you will be studying, taking the time to learn some key words and phrases before you arrive will pay great dividends. A good place to start is a free language learning website such as Livemocha or Busuu.
- Talk to Augie study abroad alumni about their experience. Ask them for advice about living and learning abroad. Your study abroad advisor in the International Programs Office can provide you with the names of Augustana students who have studied abroad at your destination.
- Spend some time exploring the Students Abroad website where you'll find a wealth of information and advice about studying and living abroad.
